Learn about the role

Role purpose

Facilitators at the Conscious Combat Club (CCC) are very special humans. You need both experience and knowledge of martial arts, and to be calm, patient and sensitive to the needs of the victim-survivors of violence we work with.

We place a high value on lived-experience in this role but it is not vital. The key quality we look for is your ability to stay calm and manage your own responses, especially when others are experiencing trauma. When participants become distressed in class, you’ll need to remain grounded and support them in settling and help them co-regulate.

Key responsibilities

Current responsibilities

  • Facilitate group trauma‑informed kickboxing classes for up to 10 participants.
  • Hold a safe, inclusive space in line with CCC’s trauma‑informed principles, boundaries, and class agreements.
  • Help participants apply their safety plan: a document they create during their intake which includes a list of their triggers, preferred grounding strategies, and any group rules they would like implemented. You won’t be creating these plans initially, just implementing them.
  • Monitor regulation and safety in the room, offering grounding, pacing and adaptations as needed.
  • Perform first aid as required and respond calmly and appropriately to safety incidents.
  • In the event of an incident, complete an incident report in line with CCC’s safety procedures.
  • Record class attendance and absences accurately after each session.
  • At a participant’s 8th class, present their certificate, invite reflection on progress, and ensure they complete the feedback form and post‑program assessment.

Future responsibilities

While this role is currently contracted for teaching hours only, Conscious Combat Club is a scaling charity with scope for this position to become part‑time or full‑time. Over time, responsibilities may expand to include:

  • Completing initial consultations with new members to assess program suitability, screen for health conditions and injuries, and help reduce barriers to starting.
  • Reviewing attendance and checking in with repeatedly absent participants to improve retention and impact.
  • Facilitating 1:1 trauma‑informed kickboxing sessions tailored to individual accessibility needs.
  • Contacting waitlisted people who have not yet booked into classes, supporting them to navigate the booking and email funnel.
  • Mentoring new facilitators as part of a leadership role.
  • Help develop and refine impact evaluation frameworks.
  • Support university researchers to evaluate trauma-informed martial arts programs.
  • Help to develop and pilot new trauma-informed martial arts programs.
  • Present at conferences, serve as a podcast guest and participate in panel discussions that showcase Conscious Combat Club’s evidence base.
